Apuan Marble Alps and Campeggio Italia, Massa/Carrara Region, Italy

Yesterday we took a drive up to the Apuan Alps where there are many marble quarries. It was amazing to see so many trucks, each with only one huge slab of marble on it. They just drive down the mountain, drop off their load, then head back up again for the next load. Crazy!

It just so happens that this is another location for one of James Bond's movies. The Quantum of Solace was filmed right here in these alps! This is the third location of filming for James Bond movies that we've seen on our trip so far!

Not a very good shot, however here is an example of a truck with a slab of marble on the back.

Above and below are a few pictures from up in the alps. Yes, there is snow on some of the really high points.
Trucks lined up waiting to head up in to the quarry. There were another five after the blue one!

If you look closely in the centre of this photograph, you can see a rope like ladder going up the cliff face.  The black 'spot' you can see is actually looking into the tunnel that is going through the hill. If you look to the right at the same level, you can see the entrance to the tunnel.

Going through one of the many tunnels that take you up into the alps. They are all so dusty!

Above and below are just some of the many marble production plants located in this area.

Amanda made real Italian carbonara for dinner! It was demolished in no time at all!!
