Managed Isolation/Quarantine, Auckland: Day 0 to 3 (3 - 6 September 2020)

Day 0
--ooOoo--

On arrival at our isolation facility our luggage was unloaded and we were allowed off, one 'bubble' at a time.  We then had to identify our luggage and it was loaded on to a trolley.  From here we were escorted through by the Army to meet with another Army official to answer some questions and be given an information pack, and be allocated our room.  We were offered two rooms next to each other with an interconnecting door, which we accepted.

The next step was to meet with a nurse and answer a bunch of health/medical and well being questions, and have our temperatures taken again.  Once done we identified our luggage trolley, were given a prepacked lunch bag, and sent up to our room.  Our luggage arrived soon after and was left outside our room and the door bell rung.

We ate lunch, unpacked, showered and did our best to stay awake until dinner arrived, which, thankfully, wasn't too late!  After eating we were all in bed by about 7pm. Kids were asleep within a minutes!!

Rooms are well equipped.  Each room has two double sized beds.  We are also supplied with plates, bowls, cutlery, glasses etc, along with dish washing liquid, cloths, tea towels and sanitizer spray.  Also provided is a supply of towels, toilet paper and tissues, shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothbrushes and other bits and pieces.  There is also a good supply of tea, yes, Earl Grey is one of them, coffee, all-be-it instant, sugar and milk.  We are also supplied with bin bags (we are required to empty our own bins and leave outside our door for collection) and laundry bags - we are allowed one lot of laundry done per room per week before we are charged.  This will be plenty.

Tonight the tooth fairy also had to visit, as she wasn't able to during our flight!  Nico lost a tooth en-route from Zurich to Hong Kong!!

Day 1
--ooOoo--

We all slept relatively well, kids not waking until between 7:30 and 8:30am.

Today we had a call from Healthline to advise us of their service and that they will check in via telephone on a regular basis.  We also had the nurse visit to check on our health and take our temperatures.  This happens daily.

Meals are ordered for 3 - 4 days at a time via Google Forms, and are delivered three times per day.  They are lovely meals and there is plenty of food.  Fresh fruit comes with breakfast too which is good, and generally there is a snack for morning or afternoon tea.  Often juice is included as well.  Once done, we place the rubbish in the bag it was delivered in and leave outsi

In addition to the meals provided for us, we are able to order grocery items online for delivery. We are not allowed to order alcohol however we are able to order and pay for this through the in-house bar.  This is simply so they can monitor consumption for peoples well-being.

Outdoor activity is extremely limited.  We are able to book the 'sun deck' for 45 minutes per day, however you can only book one day in advance and you have to get in early or you'll miss out. There is another space that can be used, however this is smaller and just a section in the underground car park.

Various phone calls from people explaining things, asking questions and so on.  It is clear things are well managed here.

We are advised that Covid swab days are day 3 and day 12.

You are asked to take no photographs in public spaces here which is fair enough.

Day 2
--ooOoo--

Today we had Countdown deliver a few items and we ordered our meals for Monday - Thursday.

Also today we had our first time outside since arriving at our hotel at Heathrow on 31 August.  We meet an Army official on level four and are escorted out to the sun deck.   Once out there, its clear its our first time!  Everyone else knows what to do and they start walking around the perimeter of the deck!!  And we just keep walking, for 45 minutes.  Before you know it time is up and we are escorted back in!

The nurse came and checked our temperatures again, and we were advised that forms would be delivered this evening for our Covid swabs.

Meals again were lovely and we even had jelly for dessert!!

Day 3 - Swab Day/Fathers Day
--ooOoo--

Today the kids and I were awake early.  We woke Brad when breakfast arrived around 8am as the boys all ordered pancakes, I had danishes.

Not long after another delivery, this time two bottles of beer and two Cokes for Fathers Day!  A nice touch!

Then came the call!  Time to head down for the Covid test.  We had to take our forms and passports with us, and wait until called through to a room on level one.  Brad and I went first, then the kids.  Cale was amazing, Nico a little reluctant, understandably.  The process wasn't too bad.  In my opinion it was better than I had expected.  We are advised that its 'uncomfortable' but doesn't take long.  My view was that it was 'weird' - a tickle up your nostril and it runs a little at the end.  The swab stays up your nostril for 10 seconds, then its done!

A quarter of the way through now!
